Survey Of The German Language Literature On Conflict

This survey identifies German-language theoretical frameworks, concepts and findings in the study of conflict. It follows a very broad approach with regard to phases, levels, causes of conflict and overlap with related areas. The research included literature from Germany, Switzerland and Austria. Due to the complexity of the issue, and the limited time frame, no comprehensive overview was attempted but rather a compilation of interesting concepts, as well as practical experiences, as food for thought and inspiration.

Computers and the Internet can benefit all parts of the education system, including student learning, teacher development, school leadership, and management. Teachers may gain benefits from using these tools in the areas of content, curriculum, instruction, and assessment. Computers are best used to help teachers build intermediate and advanced skills.

Religious School Enrollment In Pakistan : A Look At The Data

Bold assertions have been made in policy reports and popular articles on the high and increasing enrollment in Pakistani religious schools, commonly known as madrassas. Given the importance placed on the subject by policymakers in Pakistan and those internationally, it is troubling that none of the reports and articles reviewed based their analysis on publicly available data or established statistical methodologies. The authors of this paper use published data sources and a census of schooling choice to show that existing estimates are inflated by an order of magnitude.

Putting Social Development To Work For The Poor : An OED Review Of World Bank Activities

This book finds that there is a strong positive association between including social development themes and project success. The Bank's social development resources are deployed in ways that are not optimally supportive of its social development goals, however. The study found that the Bank's mission and policy priorities related to social development receive uneven treatment across Regions, and gaps in skills and M&E lead to uneven treatment within countries.

Learning-By-Doing, Learning-By-Exporting, And Productivity : Evidence From Colombia

The empirical evidence on whether participation in export markets increases plant-level productivity has been inconclusive so far. The authors explain this inconclusiveness by drawing on Arrow's (1962) characterization of learning-by-doing, which suggests focusing on young plants and using measures of export experience rather than export participation.

Innovation And University Interaction With Industry In Colombia : Policies, Experiences And Future Challenges

This study proceeds from the World Bank's assessment that Colombian innovation system could significantly contribute to the development of a knowledge-based economy, but its potential has not been fully realized. The present study undertakes an analysis of the institutional framework for university interaction with industry within the context of the overall innovation system. The overarching objective of the study is to make policy recommendations that may assist the Colombian government in promoting science and technology driven economic development.
